Welcome to Rolling Hills Preschool and Mother’s Day Out!

A play based school-readiness program that encourages children to grow and develop physically, mentally, socially, and spiritually.

We believe each child has a wonderful ability to love, laugh, and learn.

Important Information for Parents and Guardians

HEALTH ASSESSMENT:

For Kansas State, all children are required to have a Health Assessment form on file, which must be signed by the child's physician. You do not need to submit a new form if your child attended Rolling Hills within the past year. In addition to this form, your child will need an up-to-date immunization record and a medical record form. These forms must be completed before your child's first day of class.

EMERGENCY FORM:

It's also mandatory to have a signed and notarized emergency form for your child, which must be submitted on or before their first day of class in September. This form should contain your child's doctor's name and phone number, as well as your preferred hospital in case of an emergency. It's crucial that we have an up-to-date emergency name and phone number for your child at all times in case we can't reach you during school hours.

BEGINNING OF SCHOOL:

Around mid-August, your child's teacher will contact you to schedule a Meet and Greet for you and your child. This event will take place during the last week of August.

MORNING DROP-OFF:

Students should be dropped off between 9:00 and 9:10 am. If your child will be late, please notify the office. You must bring your child to the fountain doors, as teachers cannot leave their classrooms for safety reasons.

LATE PICK-UP POLICY:

Our school day runs from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. Students will be picked up between 2:45 and 3:00 pm. A fee of $5 will be charged to students who are picked up after 3:05 pm. Students picked up after 3:10 pm will be charged a fee of $10, which will increase by $5 every 5 minutes beyond 3:10 pm. This fee must be paid by the student's next school day. While we understand that unforeseen situations may arise, this policy ensures that all students are picked up in a timely manner.

SNACKS:

Your child's teacher will assign snack days for parents to provide a peanut/nut-free, nutritious snack that consists of two food groups. A list of recommended snacks will be given, along with snacks to avoid due to allergies in the classroom.

LUNCHES:

Please pack your child's lunch with foods that are peanut/nut-free, nutritious, and consist of four food groups. Include milk and utensils, and choose foods that are easy for your child to eat independently. Don't forget to pack a toothbrush!

DIAPERS AND NAPPING ITEMS:

Please include 3 diapers, diaper wipes, a light blanket, crib-sized sheet, a change of clothes, and a lovey for nap time, as needed.

CLOTHING:

Students should wear play clothes that can get dirty, as they will be engaged in outdoor activities and crafts. Shoes should be well-fitted and closed-toe, and flip-flops are not allowed. Each student should bring an extra outfit, including underwear and socks, in case of spills or accidents.

ABSENCES:

Notify the office by calling 913-642-8525 or emailing julie@rollinghillskc.org or amy@rollinghillskc.org if your child will be absent from school.

ILLNESSES:

To prevent the spread of illness, students must be fever-free and have no diarrhea for 24 hours without medication. If a child is sent home during the day for fever or diarrhea, they cannot return the following day.

Hand, foot, and mouth disease will be excluded from school until the child is fever-free for 24 hours without medication and has no open lesions.

Influenza (physician diagnosed) will be excluded for five days following the onset of symptoms. If fever persists for more than five days, exclusion will continue until the child is fever-free for 24 hours.

For COVID, students will be excluded for five days following the onset of symptoms or test date if asymptomatic. They can return to school after five days if they are fever-free for 24 hours and must wear a mask through day 10. If a student is exposed to COVID, they may return to school if they remain symptom-free and can wear a mask for 10 days from last exposure.

Discipline:

Effective discipline practices are essential in creating a safe and nurturing environment for children. At all times, discipline shall be limited to a time-out method, and no form of punishment that is humiliating, frightening, or physically harmful shall be used. Please note that the following methods of punishment are prohibited:

  • Corporal punishment

  • Verbal abuse

  • Threats

  • Derogatory remarks made about the child or family

Here are some alternative strategies to consider when dealing with toddlers' challenging behaviors:

  • Remove tempting items that are off-limits to them.

  • Distract or redirect their attention to another activity.

  • Ignore the behavior if it's not causing anyone harm.

  • Use the word "NO" sparingly and only when the toddler is approaching danger.

  • Provide duplicates of popular toys to avoid sharing conflicts.

  • Place a toy or item in "time-out," not the child.

Rolling Hills Preschool and Mother’s Day Out does not consider time-out as an appropriate disciplinary practice for toddlers because they have short attention spans and tend to be naturally active.

Inclement Weather School Closings:

In case of snow or icy weather, our center will follow the Shawnee Mission School District's decision to close. Families should check our Facebook page for updates. If there are any changes, teachers will notify parents. Please note that there are no refunds or credits for inclement weather days.
